Background
Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) remain the leading cause of death and disability in the WHO European Region. Cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases contribute to 80% of all deaths and 85% of disability, with 1 in 6 people dying prematurely before the age of 70 due to these diseases.
Systems thinking provides a practical approach to understand and act on the complex interconnections between risk factors, demographic change and the social and commercial determinants of health.
The summer school explores the theory and use of systems thinking and systems-based approaches to tackle the complex challenges of NCDs and their risk factors. Participants can expect interactive learning, hands-on exercises and project-based work.
